Transportation Planning Division

This Division conducts regional transportation planning throughout the West Central Indiana Metropolitan Planning as the Terre Haute Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (THAMPO). Congress established transportation planning organizations to ensure federal funds expended for transportation projects are based on a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive (ā€œ3-Cā€) planning process that involves local government officials, community stakeholders, the state department of transportation, and the public.


Public Notice

EMBARK 2026 Development and Input Request - The Terre Haute Area MPO in coordination with Terre Haute Transit Utility and community stakeholders are updating the CPTHSTP. This effort is known as "Embark - Moving Forward with Public Transportation."  The process of updating this plan began in March of 2026 is ongoing. The scope of work to accomplish this task is as follows:

  • Review of the previous coordinated plan to develop a basis for evaluation and recommendations; (ongoing)
  • Evaluation of existing economic/demographic conditions in Metropolitan Planning Area; (ongoing)
  • Conduct a Terre Haute transit rider survey and preform an analysis of the ridership; (Click here to take survey)
  • Strategies to address the identifies gaps between current services and needs, as well as opportunities to improve efficiencies in service delivery;
  • Conduct two local meetings for stakeholders for the purpose of soliciting input on transportation needs, service gaps, and implementation strategies to resolve these deficiencies;
  • A Public Outreach Meeting for residents of Vigo County and the Terre Haute Urbanized Area is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22nd from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Vigo County Public Library. 
  • Conducting a public input meeting to provide the public with the opportunity to convey transportation needs and requests, from service providers directly to the planning team;
  • Update of the inventory of existing transportation services provided by public, private and non-profit organization.

Transportation Technical Committee

The next meeting of the TTC will be held on February 24th,, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the 2nd floor executive conference room of the HUB @ the Hulman Building located at 900 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, IN 47807.

 

SFY 2026 - 2030 TIP -

 The Terre Haute Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has developed and prepared the SFY 2026 - 2030 Transportation Improvement Program for the Terre Haute Metropolitan Planning Area (Vigo County, Indiana). 

Prepare and Advance Terre Haute (PATH) 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP)

ProPEL US 41 is a collaborative INDOT planning initiative that prioritizes public feedback to help inform the study and contribute to the future vision of US 41 in Terre Haute and Vigo County.

The ProPEL US 41 study is focused on identifying the transportation needs and community goals of the study area, evaluating innovative ideas to meet those needs, and recommending a set of reasonable alternatives for future project consideration.
